Why enrol/re-enrol?
Now is your chance to tailor your benefit coverage to your and your family’s personal needs. In addition, re-enrolling is your only opportunity to see if your coverage costs are changing.
Reviewing and updating your benefits each year ensures you pay only for the benefits you need. If the option you select doesn’t give you the appropriate level of coverage for your personal needs, you may end up paying for expenses out of pocket that could have been covered by a different option.
If your spouse is also covered by a benefit plan, it makes even more sense. You may be able to select a lower coverage option and direct money to your Health Care Spending Account.
If you’re new to the plan, you will receive the default coverage outlined in your welcome letter. That may mean that you won’t have the coverage you need—or you may end up paying for coverage you will not use. The default coverage cannot be changed until the next annual re-enrolment period unless you experience a qualifying Life Event.
If you’re already a member of the plan and don’t re-enrol by the deadline, March 14, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. AT:
- Your current benefits choices will remain in place.
- You won’t be able to change your coverage until the next annual re-enrolment period, unless you experience a qualifying Life Event.
A Life Event is a major event that may mean a change to your benefit needs. In that case, you can make a benefit change before the next re-enrolment. Life Events include:
- Birth, adoption or gain of legal guardianship of a child;
- Marriage;
- Divorce or separation;
- Death of a dependent (spouse or child); and
- Change in spouse’s employment or benefits coverage.
You have 31 days from the date of a qualifying Life Event to make changes to your benefits coverage.
A confirmed beneficiary ensures that:
- Your Life and AD&D Insurance benefits are paid directly to your beneficiary (rather than your estate); and
- The benefits are not paid to someone else.
If there is no confirmed beneficiary on file your insurance benefit will be paid to your estate. If the only form on file is out of date, any insurance benefit will be paid to that person, no matter what your current intention might be.
Check to see who is currently on file to receive your Life and AD&D Insurance benefits:
- Log on to the People Portal, select the “Total Rewards” tile. You’ll be taken to the new Total Rewards experience website. Select “Access Your YouFlex Benefits” under “Quick Links” at the top left of the landing page.
- Once in the YouFlex benefits website, select the “YouFlex Benefits” tab at the top, and then “Beneficiary Updates” for a list of your beneficiaries. If it says “Not assigned” by the beneficiary name there is no confirmed beneficiary on file.
- If you would like to make a change to your beneficiary, select “Add Beneficiary” or “Make a Change” and follow the instructions.
You can now review, update (if necessary) and confirm your beneficiary all online on the YouFlex benefits re-enrolment site.
