Get ready to enrol/re-enrol

New to the plan?

  • Think about your family’s health and dental needs. What expenses are they likely to have between now and the beginning of the next benefit year (the benefit year runs from May 1 to April 30)?
  • Consider what your family might need if you weren’t around, were injured or unable to work. This may affect what you choose for YouFlex Optional Life Insurance, Optional Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance and, for full-time employees, Long Term Disability coverage.
  • Review the plan options.
  • Review your spouse’s plan. Ensure you coordinate your benefits coverage. It may mean that a lower cost health and/or dental option might work better for you because your spouse’s plan is also providing coverage.

Enrol on the YouFlex benefits website by the deadline shown on your welcome letter.

Decide if you need to update your coverage

  • Think about how you used the plan last year. Do you wish you had chosen different coverage?
  • Are your or your family’s health and dental needs different from last year? Perhaps your financial situation has changed and you may need more or less financial security benefits—Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance or Long Term Disability (full-time employees only) coverage.
  • Review the plan options.
  • While prices for health care and dental coverage will not be changing, there still might be a better option for you, even if your needs haven’t changed. Learn more here.
  • Review your spouse’s plan. Ensure you coordinate your benefits coverage. It may mean that a less expensive health and/or dental option might work better for you because your spouse’s plan is also providing coverage.
  • Re-enrol by March 16, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. AT.
  • If I die, who will receive my Life and AD&D insurance benefits, and how do I know if I have a signed beneficiary form on file?

    • Go to the YouFlex benefits website by logging on to the People Portal, select the “Pay, Pension and Benefits (youflex)” tile under “My Info” and then the “youflex Benefits” tile in the “Highlights For You” section on the Total Compensation website.
    • Once on the YouFlex benefits website, click the grey “YouFlex Benefits” tab at the top, and then the green “Beneficiary Updates” tab to see your beneficiaries. If it says “Not assigned” next to the beneficiary's name, there is no signed form on file.

    Submit your beneficiary form

Sending a signed Beneficiary Authorization form to the Benefits Department makes your designation valid. It ensures that:

    • Your Life and AD&D insurance benefits are paid to your beneficiary (rather than your estate); and
    • The benefits are not paid to someone else.

If there is no signed form on file, your insurance benefit will be paid to your estate. If the only form on file is out of date, any insurance benefit will be paid to that person, no matter what your current intention might be.

Be sure you complete, sign and mail in your Beneficiary Authorization form to the Benefits Department.
